WHERE WE ARE NOW

Flattering fit. Scrumptious fabrics. Unique details. Quality craftsmanship. Simple beauty. All come to mind when trying on a piece of Garnish.

Owner and designer, Erica Lurie, lives in Portland, Oregon where she pours her energy into her sewing machines to create a line that clearly expresses her love for her work. Garnish launched its first line in 2005 and each subsequent season brings new techniques and inspiration to the constantly evolving designer. At Garnish you will be treated with a very personal, and often interactive, shopping experience. As Erica designs her line for the coming month you may be asked your opinion on elements of the design and perhaps she’ll even name the style after you! Or work with her to customize a piece that suits your exact personal style. The gals at Garnish are happy to help you discover what is most flattering on you and encourage you to bring forth your inner fashionista.

Erica designs all styles, makes the patterns, and sews the first samples. Production is all done in Oregon.

INSPIRATION

Erica finds much inspiration from traveling and from the natural world. Many of the images from her travels she includes in her work. Not only does seeing new cultures and landscapes provide great subject matter for her photographs, but the local crafts and textiles provide a fresh look at how we adorn ourselves. She always returns enriched and ready to take on a new technique.

WHERE WE CAME FROM

With a mother who loves to sew, Erica began sewing at a young age. She entered her first outfit, a spatter painted top and skirt, in the Vermont State Fair and has been in love with the process of creating ever since.

After starting and running a polar fleece outerwear business in high school, Erica realized that having a clothing business was both challenging and rewarding. She graduated from Montana State University with a BFA in 'Sculpture' and a minor in 'Clothing and Textiles'. Her sculptures, which were typically metal or a combination of found objects, often focused on clothing as she experimented with texture and form.
