Behind the Scenes: Late Spring Designs

February 22nd, 2013

Late Spring Collection Inspiration Board

Coming together to design the next wave of Garnish pieces is something we always look forward to. Armed with pre-drawn sketches, plenty of #2 pencils, fashion clippings, and a little bit of vino we dove right into our magic hat of ideas for the late spring collection. The consensus was clear this round- the 70′s are calling. Like the iconic Carly Simon strumming her guitar, we picture the Garnish Gal grooving to her favorite bands at an outdoor festival. She may be attending a dinner party on a veranda. Or she’s celebrating a dear friend’s wedding day. What did that translate to us? Dresses, dresses, dresses! Gorgeous pieces that would be versatile enough to wear at a picnic in the park and be party ready in no time.

Garnish Manager Kate presents some inspiration for a silhouette.

A sketch gets re-worked with every new and exciting idea.

Our fearless leader, Erica considers a dress from this soft salmon & black chevron fabric.

No fabrics are left unexplored. Could we see these two together?

After a long and productive night we couldn’t be more excited with what we have in store for you! The new late spring collection will be brimming with feminine shapes and nostalgic silhouettes in the most romantic and dreamy of fabrics. Imagine fit flattering dresses in soft tones of blue, green, and purple plums. All with a mix of charming lace and captivating textures. We think we just may be onto something psychedelically wonderful with this one!

White Label Collection by Garnish

February 4th, 2013

We are super excited to introduce our new White Label Collection by Garnish!  This semi-annual collection will be inspired by the latest runway trends and may, at times, dive into new techniques we’ve been curious to explore.   This collection was very much influenced by its bold fabrics and at times it took on a mod twist.  This Saturday morning as the fog was still clinging to the Wilamette river we headed down to capture the nautical-inspired collection on film.

To secure your favorite pieces we recommend pre-ordering by Wednesday, February 4th before the pieces go into production.  Pre-orders will be accepted on an “as available” basis after that.

Special thanks to Photographer, Mark Riskedahl, Model Caitlin Green-Healy, and Chad Gearin for the use of his beautiful boat.

Behind the Scenes: Spring Design at Garnish

January 15th, 2013

Inspiration Board Spring Collection 2013

Last week the Garnish Gals gathered after hours to brainstorm designs for the early Spring Collection.  It’s an interesting and challenging process bringing all of our ideas together into a cohesive line,  but it’s always a lot of fun and we think we’ve nailed it for our upcoming collection.

Jade and Erica are dreaming up a bold top and skirt ensemble.

Our spring collection will feature sophisticated geometric prints, black and white stripes, edgy leather details, and statement fabrics in reds, royals, turquoises, and olives. We’ve tapped into the wonder of color, bold prints, and unexpected touches to bring you a plethora of fun and freshness this season.

Spring 2013 Fabrics

Stripes and Paisleys... what will you turn into?

Although we like to think of ourselves as contemporary (with a nod to vintage), we have never tried to be trendy.  But there are some trends that, when done right, are worth jumping on the band wagon for.  When we saw this big, bold geometric print it just shouted MAXI DRESS!  So we had to listen.  We are making it in two colorways, but only have enough to make 6 dresses per colorway.  So stay tuned to pre-order one as these sexy numbers might not even make it to the racks!

Michelle took a chance and left behind a decade long career in the wine industry to follow her true passion, design. She has since been recognized as one of “3 Designers to Watch” by The Oregonian and has continued to woo fashionistas with her line, Au Clothing, that, in Michelle’s words, “celebrates the smart, sassy, articulate, nerdy woman.” Since she joined Garnish in May, we’ve had so much fun working with Michelle and being privy to her extraordinary creative energy and rock-star sense of style!

Michelle’s bold and edgy aesthetic has brought a wonderful spirit to Garnish’s collaborative design process. From what we’ve been able to sneak a peek at online, it’s said that this season will feature more team challenges than ever before. Michelle is a strong team player. Can we just say that we are super confident that she has what it takes to go far in the competition. Let’s hear it for Michelle!
